Join the July 25 Party in the Foothills

Hundreds of guests are now attending free concerts in the Avimor Ampitheater.

Word is getting out! The Foothills are filled with music during Evenings at Avimor free concert events, and you’re invited to the next concert on Saturday, July 25.

Our largest crowd yet—close to 300 people—attended the concert on Saturday, June 27. Local artists, Steve Fulton and Tim Willis, entertained the crowd with their easy Rock and Roll sound, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Little kids danced while adults shared great music, food, wine, and interesting conversation. Others played croquet on the amphitheater lawn.

Join us for the next free Evenings at Avimor on Saturday, July 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Avimor Amphitheater in Foothills Heritage Park. The concert will feature the easy style and soulful sound of Gayle Chapman. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and bring a picnic, beverages and friends!

Yes--Birds can ride bicycles at Avimor

As you may already know, Avimor is a haven for many different species of birds, and hundreds of visitors enjoy birdwatching from fantastic vantage points throughout the community.

Our fine feathered friends come in all shapes and forms.  

Recently, we had a special visit from Boise Hawks player, Ryan Sontag, and team mascot, Humphrey the Hawk.

Both joined us for our Home Run event on Saturday, June 20th that featured special guests from the Boise Hawks. Neighborhood kids rode bikes with Humphrey, and Sontag threw a few balls so the kids could get in some batting practice.

Parents, on the other hand, toured our award-winning ENERGY STAR certified model homes while pretending to not be interested in Humphrey's antics. 

All in all, it was a great day at Avimor!

Grab a blanket or lawn chair, bring a picnic, throw some beverages in your cooler and enjoy a free concert at Avimor in the beautiful Foothills north of

Boise

on Saturday, June 27 from 6:30 until dark.

If you enjoy a Dave Matthews kind of sound, you won’t want to miss this performance of jam-style music by local electric and acoustic guitarists Steve Fulton and Tim Willis.

This month’s Evenings at Avimor performance will be held in the Avimor Amphitheater, but there is plenty of room for you to bring blankets, lawn furniture, Frisbees and lawn games. Bring the dogs, if you like, as long as you keep them on their leashes. BYO beer and wine is permitted.

The free Evenings at Avimor concert series is scheduled on Saturday nights through the summer. Events will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. or until the music stops. Check avimor.com throughout the summer for special announcements and further details about the bands and entertainers that will be performing.

Avimor developer named Northwest ENERGY STAR Builder of the Year— New homes at Avimor are at least 15 percent more energy efficient

 
Public invited to award presentation ceremony on Sat., June 6 Free hot dogs, kettle corn and family fun from noon until 3 p.m.

Northwest ENERGY STAR and Idaho Power will present the 2008-2009 Northwest ENERGY STAR Idaho Builder of the Year Award to SunCor Idaho, Inc. during a public ceremony at Avimor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Bridging the Gap

Now it is easier than ever to enjoy the Foothills Heritage Park at Avimor or simply take a stroll along Spring Valley Creek.

On May 14, 2009, the pedestrian bridge that connects the Community's paved trails to Foothills Heritage Park was completed. After obtaining federal permits, temporarily diverting the Spring Valley Creek, and performing quite a bit of dredge and fill, workers at Avimor installed a large culvert pipe in a portion of Spring Valley Creek.

A 10' wide concrete trail was installed over the culvert, and beautiful landscaping dressed up the 4' wide shoulders along the trail. The bridge not only makes the park more accessible, it adds to the beautiful scenerly in the area.

Free Urban Bird Kits will be available for the first 100 kids with reservations at the first Celebrate Urban Birds at Avimor event on Saturday, May 16.

From 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., kids and parents are invited to come and learn more about 15 species of the many dozens of kinds of birds that populate the foothills ecosystem. You’ll also be able to take a short Bird Walk along Spring Valley Creek that leaves every 15 minutes, paint and color pictures of birds and even plant some seeds that will grow into wildlife sustaining vegetation.

Celebrate Urban Birds at Avimor is underwritten, in part, by a grant from Cornell University. The event is part of a world-wide project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that received more than 650 applications for funding. Celebrate Urban Birds at Avimor received one of only 21 grants that were awarded nationwide.

Other Bird News at Avimor
Speaking of spotting interesting birds at Avimor—we've been watching a Great Horned Owl nest along the greenbelt near Streams Edge Way and Claymore Street daily for the past several weeks. We should see some fuzzy owl chicks any day now because the mother owl sits diligently warming her eggs around the clock. Occasionally, the father owl can be seen huddled and camouflaged close to the trunk on the trees behind the nest. This mating pair of owls has become a highlight for the neighbors and guests during monthly bird walks at Avimor.

In other bird news, several weeks ago, a Red-tailed Hawk had disappeared temporarily, but is using its nest again high atop the power line at the mouth of the canyon. Robins and finches are nesting and there are already eggs in several locations around the model homes.
